Merriman’s Waimea announces 2016-2017 Culinary Scholarship Award recipients

WAIMEA — Merriman’s Restaurant Waimea is pleased to announce the 2017-2018 recipients of the annual Merriman’s Culinary Scholarship. Culinary students Damien Robledo and Kaitlyn Silva, attending Hawaii Community College at Hilo, have each been awarded $1,300.

WAIMEA — Merriman’s Restaurant Waimea is pleased to announce the 2017-2018 recipients of the annual Merriman’s Culinary Scholarship. Culinary students Damien Robledo and Kaitlyn Silva, attending Hawaii Community College at Hilo, have each been awarded $1,300.

“All of this year’s applicants showed strong qualities and passion for the field, and a promising future in the culinary program”, said Brandi Romain-Smith, director of operations, Merriman’s Waimea. “We would like to give a big “mahalo” to our selections committee members in choosing these deserving individuals.”

The members are Diane Orenstein-Taxes with Etc., a financial affiliate, and Sandy Barr Rivera, a culinary educator.

Started in the year 2000, Merriman’s Culinary Scholarship provides scholarships for students entering or continuing in the field of Culinary Arts at either Hawaii Community College or the University of Hawaii Center at West Hawaii. The scholarships are awarded annually based on applicant’s outstanding qualities, passion for the field and financial need.

To date, Merriman’s Culinary Scholarship has donated a total of $53,650 and assisted more than 40 culinary students in advancing their culinary education.
